Policies

SOOSC promotes certain policy and procedures as laid down in legislation from the Care Inspectorate. These include protection of all children from abuse and discrimination. All staff within SOOSC are trained appropriately.

Ultimately we aim to provide a caring environment in which children can feel safe and have fun. To do this we strive to promote respect, equality and fairness at all times by creating an environment free from bullying, harassment and discrimination.

For the sake of the children we have a clear policy on behaviour on the part of each child, we also have a separate policy and procedures on bullying.

Health and safety requirements demand that the children play within an environment in which all the equipment is safe and clean.

Parents/carers are involved at a variety of levels. For example the person collecting the child must sign the register before the child leaves the building and no child will be released to anyone other than parent/carer, or appointed agent. The parent/carer must also complete a form in which an emergency contact number is given. Similarly the parent/carer will be requested to fill out a consent form for outings and trips.

Child protection policy

SOOSC abides by the ruling from Article 19 (protection from violence, abuse and neglect) of The UN Convention on The Rights of The Child (1989) that;

Governments (and organisations) must do all they can to ensure that children are protected from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect and bad treatment by their parents or anyone else who looks after them.’

Shawlands Out of School Care Ltd will promote the safety of users to ensure that they feel safe and secure and that they are free from exploitation and abuse in the following ways:

The service promoting programmes on healthy lifestyles and relationships, hygiene, diet and personal safety in partnership with parents.

Staff having a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities in protecting children and young people from harm, abuse, bullying and neglect.

Staff receive training in the recognition of harm, abuse, neglect, bullying and discrimination and will follow the service’s procedures in addressing these issues.

All of our Child Protection Policy and Procedures are informed by the UNCRC and take into account all current guidance on child protection best practice.

Staff are carefully vetted in line with the National Care Standards prior to appointment.

SOOSC ensures that the recommended adult: child ratios are met at all times.

Regular risk assessments are carried out.

All matters pertaining to child protection comply with the SOOSC’s stringent Confidentiality and Record-Keeping Policies.
